Title V: Innovative Programs State Grants
Purpose
To provide supplemental federal funds to school districts for assistance with local education reform efforts, which align with and support statewide reform efforts. There is great flexibility within Title V-A with 27 approved uses for these funds.
Funds must be used for
- Specific activities for increased student academic achievement and improved teacher quality as listed in the approved application
- Implementation of an overall education reform strategy or plan
Funds may be used for
- Activities to support increased student achievement
- Activities to support improved teacher quality
- Media support, class size reduction programs, implementation of promising practices
- Magnet schools, adult literacy, gifted and talented programs
- Technology, library services, curriculum materials,
- Drop out prevention
- Community services programs
- Consumer, economic, and personal finance education for students
- School nurses, CPR training for staff
- Alternative education programs for students who have been suspended or expelled
- Preschool programs
- Service learning programs, school safety programs
- Purchase and implementation of short –cycle assessments
Funds may not be used for
- Activities and services not specified in the approved application
- Meeting basic state-mandated educational and program requirements
