Public Records Requests

The NMPED follows procedures contained in the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act (NMSA 1978, Chapter 14, Article 2) and the New Mexico Attorney General’s published compliance guide, 5th edition.

Upon receipt of written or electronic Inspection of Public Records request, the NMPED Custodian of Records will respond in writing within three calendar days to acknowledge receipt of that request. Then, after determining if the requested records exist, and are subject to inspection, copies of the records will be mailed using certified mail.  If the records requested are extensive, the requestor will be notified that the records are available for inspection at the New Mexico Public Education Department offices at 300 Don Gaspar in Santa Fe or one of our field offices.

To Submit a Request:
Requestors should be specific in describing the records requested.  Request for reasons or justification on why certain actions were taken by the Public Education Department are not proper requests under this law.  The requestor also must provide their full name, phone number, and a physical mailing address where NMPED Record Custodian will send requested documents.
