[ Albuquerque] – New Mexico Education Secretary Veronica García and the New Mexico Association for the Education of Young Children will co-host a “Community Conversation on Closing the Achievement Gap” in Albuquerque with early childhood educators, parents and community members. The event will take place from 7-9 pm tomorrow, September 28 th, 2005 at the Second Presbyterian Church. ( 812 Edith Blvd., on the corner of Edith and Lomas) The Lt. Governor, Diane Denish, will be joining Secretary Veronica García at the conversation.
Secretary García said, “I look forward to talking with and listening to early childhood educators because I deeply believe the vast power to bridge the achievement gap exists when children are very young.”
Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish said, “ Better teachers, higher standards and more state of the art schools, are vital to our children’s education. But the early involvement of parents in their child’s learning is absolutely critical. So, these conversations are not just an opportunity for feedback for improving our schools, but also give us insights into better ways of involving parents in their child’s education.”
Parents, teachers, and members of the early childhood community are invited to attend and participate in the discussion. For more information on Secretary García’s upcoming Community Conversations, please call the New Mexico Public Education Department at (505) 222-4752 or (505) 476-0393.
