New Mexico Public Education Department Awarded Jacob Javits Grant for Improving Gifted Education from the US Department of Education

( Santa Fe, NM)—The New Mexico Public Education Department announces the receipt of a Jacob Javits grant for improving gifted education from the US Department of Education. This three-year award for $813,225 will be used to provide college training for teachers of gifted students in public schools across the state, training for school personnel in how to identify gifted students in underrepresented ethnic groups (Hispanic, Native American, and African-American), and a summer institute each year on gifted education. 

 

School districts, charter schools, and regional education cooperatives may apply for funds through July 1, 2005 by going to the Special Education Bureau web site at http://www.ped.state.nm.us/seo/gifted/javits.grant.application.pdf
