Wins Regional Advanced Placement
Math and Science Award

(Santa Fe, NM)— The 2004-2005 Siemens Student Awards for Advanced Placement (AP) were recently selected. These awards are given to 24 winners nationwide. Robert Cordwell, a senior at Manzano High School in Albuquerque, NM was one of the recipients. Student finalists scored the highest cumulative scores on eight exams in seven AP courses which include: biology, calculus, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, physics: electricity and magnetism and physics: mechanics and statistics. Each student will receive a $3,000 scholarship to the college of their choice.

Secretary Veronica C. García said, “I wish to congratulate Robert Cordwell for his outstanding achievement on the Advanced Placement exams. His accomplishments illustrate that New Mexico students are capable of excelling at a national level with the best of the best. I am proud of Robert and hope that he inspires other students to take rigorous advanced placement courses.”

On February first, a full-page ad in USA Today announced the winners. Two of the twenty-four regional winners will be selected as national winners and awarded an additional $5,000 scholarship. National winners will be announced in the spring.
