Public Education Department Presents Instructional Materials Summer Institute June 5-10, 2005

( Santa Fe, NM)—From June 5-10, 2005, at the College of Santa Fe, The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) will present an Instructional Materials Summer Review Institute. The purpose of the summer institute is to provide publishers from across the United States a forum in which to share their core/basal materials with over 100 reviewers from across New Mexico. The reviewers will be considering these instructional materials for possible adoption. The subjects that are undergoing adoption reviews include: science, health, and physical education.

Each presenter will be given 45 minutes to demonstrate instructional materials which include school textbooks, and other educational media that are used as the basis for instruction including learning kits and electronic media. Core/basal materials refer to the set of materials that make up the main component of curriculum to be delivered to students for in-class instruction.

Facilitators and reviewers participating in the institute were chosen based on the following criteria:

  • They are content experts and will insure that materials recommended for adoption will align with the State standards.
  • They represent all grade levels. (elementary, middle and high school)

The recommendations from the reviewers will be forwarded to the Secretary of Education for possible adoption in fiscal year ’07. See attached schedule for detailed itinerary of the events during the institute.
