Public Education Department Recommendations for Science,
Health and Physical Education Materials
Santa Fe— The State of New Mexico’s Public Education Department (PED), Instructional Material Bureau (IMB) will hold a public meeting to present adoption recommendations for Science, Health, and Physical Education (PE) materials for the six year adoption cycle, 2006-2012, to Secretary of Education, Dr. Veronica García on Thursday, July 7, 2005 from 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. in the New Mexico State Capitol Building, Room 311.
The purpose of the six-year adoption is to bid the basal/core textbook or the primary tool of instruction materials plus the teacher edition and supplementary/ancillary materials for Science, Health, and Physical Education.
Materials to be adopted must align to NM Content Standards and Benchmarks, address the material’s research-based effectiveness, address related professional development activities offered by publishers, and be free from factual errors.
Dr. Garcia will review the adoption recommendations made by highly qualified teacher-reviewers and grant final approval for those materials to be available for purchase by New Mexico schools. Approved bids will be contracted for use in New Mexico schools from July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2012.
