PED, KOAT, the Education Plan of NM and KFC to Launch Campaign to Benefit School Children

(Santa Fe, NM)-- The Public Education Department (PED), KOAT-TV, the Education Plan of NM and KFC will launch the "Fourth Annual KOAT School Supply Drive" on Monday, July 26, through Friday, August 20, 2004, as part of the New Mexico Children First Campaign. The campaign is designed to collect school supplies for New Mexico children who are most in need.

“With the opening of school just around the corner, the campaign is seeking donations of essential supplies—pencils, paper, glue, crayons, scissors, Magic Markers and erasers—to help children get ready to learn,” said Secretary of Education Dr. Veronica C. García. “We are deeply grateful to KOAT and KFC for putting New Mexico’s children first.”

Donations of school supplies may be made at any KFC location in New Mexico. If a local school district does not have a KFC, all donations and inquiries may be directed to the local school district office or to another location specified by the district. Donations will also be accepted at the PED office of Legislative and Community Relations, located at 300 Don Gaspar Ave. in Room 102, in Santa Fe.

Campaign coordinators in local school districts will pick up donated supplies and ensure distribution to eligible children, as determined by the local district.
