State Legislature to Celebrate 'Apprenticeship Day' on Monday, February 16

(Santa Fe, NM)-- The State Legislature will celebrate "Apprenticeship Day" on Monday, February 16, 2004 by recognizing the apprenticeship community and bringing awareness to the programs sponsored by industry and participated in by apprentices. The goal of the day-long celebration is to bring attention to apprenticeship programs throughout New Mexico, and the impact such programs have on job training, employment and the state's economy.

Apprenticeship programs offer significant economic benefits to New Mexico by producing highly skilled workers. They offer individuals the opportunity for training and employment experience in over 800 skilled trades. Forty-four organizations, including businesses, business associations, unions and other organizations, sponsor apprenticeship programs in New Mexico and approximately 2,000 individuals participate as apprentices in these programs. Apprenticeship programs are almost exclusively funded by the respective industries they serve.
