IDEA State Advisory Panel to Meet December 13-14

(Santa Fe, NM)--The New Mexico Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) State Advisory Panel will meet on Monday and Tuesday, December 13 and 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at John Adams Middle School, located at 5401 Glenrio Road, NW, in Albuquerque. The panel advises the Public Education Department (PED) on its efforts to assure the provision of free appropriate public education to children with disabilities.

This month’s agenda includes a review of proposed state rules and regulation changes on December 13, from 11:15 a.m. to noon, followed by a working lunch on the reauthorization of IDEA and goal setting on December 14 from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Public comments will be welcomed at 9:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on December 13 and 10:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. on December 14.

Advisory panel members are appointed by the governor or his designee, are representative of the state’s population and include individuals involved in, or concerned with, the education of children with disabilities.

Individuals with disabilities who need any form of auxiliary aid to attend or participate in this meeting should contact the Special Education Office at 505-827-6541 no later than ten (10) days prior to scheduled event. Upon request, public documents will be provided in an accessible form necessary to the individual requesting the particular auxiliary aid.
