National Overture of Education and the Arts in New Mexico (Santa Fe)--Teachers and interested community members can learn more about the connection between teaching and the arts in April. The National Overture of Education and the Arts in New Mexico, presented by the Institute for Education and the Arts, is offering workshops, demonstrations and roundtable discussions this month in Albuquerque, Clovis, Espanola, Los Alamos, Rio Rancho, Santa Clara Pueblo and Santa Fe on a variety of ways to use the arts to help children learn. Attendance is free. The National Overture of Education and the Arts invites educators to come see how the creation of props and masks are powerful illustrators of key concepts in chemistry, how a teacher working with a dancer can help students understand principals of earth science and more! Highlights from the offerings include the following:
The Institute for Education and the Arts is a national, nonprofit organization, based in Washington, D.C., that promotes teaching through and about the arts for K-12 children as a regular and frequent part of their schooling. The National Overture in New Mexico is one of the Institute’s Community Partnership Programs that runs from February through April 2004 to bring broad-based awareness to New Mexicans about the importance of the arts as a regular part of every child’s education.
