Education Secretary Garcia Visits Constituents from
Clayton, Grady, House, Logan, San Jon and Tucumcari

(Santa Fe, NM)--Secretary of Education Dr. Veronica C. Garcia is visiting this week with constituents from Clayton, Grady, House, Logan, San Jon and Tucumcari. On April 7, she met with the Tucumcari Public Schools superintendent, Dr. William D. Reents, and the president of Mesalands Community College, Dr. Phillip O. Barry.

Today she will tour Amistad Charter School in Clayton and the Grady, House, Logan and San Jon Municipal Schools. Accompanying her is Charles Hayes, assistant secretary for Rural Education. Assistant Secretary Hayes is the former superintendent of the Lordsburg Independent Schools and a former governor’s appointee in 2003 to the New Mexico State Board of Education.

“The Public Education Department is focused on the needs of rural schools. It is critical to hear from rural educators as we work to meet their unique challenges and opportunities. In many ways, the rural areas represent the heart of New Mexico and our diversity. As we provide every child with the education that he or she deserves, we must not, and cannot, overlook our rural communities,” said Secretary Dr. García.
