Announces Statewide Public Hearing Schedule on (Santa Fe, NM)— The New Mexico State Department of Education (SDE) announced today that 14 hearings will be held statewide to solicit public comment on a proposed three-tiered licensure system, including 19 rule changes focused on creating the system. The New Mexico State Board of Education’s (SBE) Quality Educator Committee on June 18 approved the system for public comment. Comments on the rules will be presented to the SBE for adoption on August 27-29. The system is a central component of HB 212, Public School Reforms, which was passed by the Legislature and signed by Governor Bill Richardson this year. The system provides for licensure advancement through Levels I, II and III, using a High Objective Uniform Standard of Evaluation.
