Agenda for 'Education on the Rise' News Conference,
Honoring 10 Schools, TOMORROW at State Capitol

(Santa Fe, NM)-The New Mexico State Department of Education (SDE) will hold a news conference on Thursday, February 13, from noon to 12:35 p.m., at the SDE, Mabry Hall. At the news conference, the New Mexico State Board of Education (SBE), SDE and The Horace Mann Companies will honor 10 public schools removed from school improvement in 2002.

The 10 schools being recognized are Sunland Park Elementary, Gadsden; Roosevelt Elementary and Gallup Middle, Gallup; MacArthur Elementary, Las Cruces; Tomé Elementary, Los Lunas; César Chavez Elementary and R. M. Sweeney Elementary, Santa Fe; Rio Costilla Elementary, Questa; East Grand Plains Elementary, Roswell; and Zuni High, Zuni.

The news conference is part of "Education on the Rise Day" at the Legislature, proclaimed by Governor Bill Richardson in honor of the 10 schools that are no longer in school improvement and rated as probationary. The schools will have displays in the Hall of History on the west side of the state Capitol Rotunda all day, showing how they raised the levels of learning among their students.

A reception in the SDE's atrium will immediately follow the news conference.
