SDE Posts April Corrective Action Reports on Web Site
(Santa Fe, NM)-The New Mexico State Department of Education (SDE)
today posted the April progress reports on the state's 14 corrective
action schools on its web site. The 14 individual reports are available
at http://www.ped.state.nm.us/cft/ca.team/index.html.
"These reports provide critical information for all local
and state stakeholders on the progress of New Mexico's corrective
action schools," said Toni Trujillo, the state's special master
for corrective action. "This is the sixth of seven monthly
reports that will be provided to the public this school year on
how schools are adhering to their local corrective action plans
and the mandatory conditions required of them by the state superintendent
of public instruction."
By action of the New Mexico State Board of Education (SBE), the
schools have until the spring of 2004 to meet standards or qualify
for an extension of school improvement. The SBE retains continuing
jurisdiction over all matters of corrective action. At any time
the state superintendent determines progress is not occurring, a
proposed notice of suspension can be issued. "Our mission is
to assist the schools in keeping their focus on the implementation
of their corrective action plans and instruction," Trujillo
said.
The corrective action schools are:
- Albuquerque Public Schools: Lowell Elementary, Whittier Elementary,
Polk Middle and Washington Middle
- Bernalillo Public Schools: Santo Domingo Elementary
- Central Consolidated Schools: Mesa Elementary and Tse' Bit'ai
Middle
- Gallup-McKinley County Public Schools: Churchrock Elementary,
David Skeet Elementary, John F. Kennedy Middle and Thoreau Middle
- Grants-Cibola County Schools: Laguna-Acoma Middle
- Las Cruces Public Schools: Booker T. Washington Elementary
and
- Zuni Public Schools: Zuni Middle.
