SBE Allocates Capital Funds for Kindergarten
Classrooms
(Santa Fe, NM)-The New Mexico State Department of Education (SDE)
announced today the allocation of $4.63 million in funding for full-day
kindergarten facilities for 2002-2003.
"The capital funding provided by the Legislature in 2002 will
provide for portable and permanent full-day kindergarten classrooms
in communities from Albuquerque to Tucumcari. We thank the Legislature
for making these funds available. Capital funding is critical to helping
children acquire the language and early literacy skills they need to
enter first grade and become proficient readers and writers," said
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Michael J. Davis.
Twenty-one schools in nine school districts received funding in amounts
ranging from $39,534 (Socorro) to $871,066 (Tucumcari). The recipients
