SDE to Hold Regional Workshops
on Assessments
(Santa Fe, NM)-The New Mexico State Department of Education (SDE)
announced today that six regional workshops will be held throughout
the state in conjunction with CTB/McGraw-Hill, publisher of the
TerraNova, on test administration in 2003 and test security. The
TerraNova CAT (or Complete Battery) will be administered in grades
3-9 between March 3-23.
District test coordinators and test coordinators of charter and
state-supported schools are required to attend one of these workshops.
Pre-registration in not required.

Information will be shared on the TerraNova and new New Mexico
Standards-based Assessment (SBA), the criterion-referenced test
to be administered in grades 4 and 8 in language arts and mathematics.
In addition, the workshops will provide training on the administration
of the New Mexico Writing Assessment Program, New Mexico High School
Competency Examination and the newly developed New Mexico High School
Standards Assessment field test to be administered in grade 11.
The writing assessment will be administered in grades 5 and 7
on February 10-28 and the high school competency examination will
be administered on January 20 to February 7. The field test will
be administered in late April.
