SDE Announces Seven National
Board-Certified Teachers
(Santa Fe, NM)-The New Mexico State Department of Education (SDE)
announced today that seven teachers in New Mexico received certification
from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards®
in 2002. This brings the number of National Board-certified teachers
in New Mexico to 107.
The teachers are: Ulrike Kerstges, Jane McIntyre and Jane Avon-Yessak
from the Albuquerque Public Schools, Lynn Birch from the Clovis
Municipal Schools and Denise Cannon, Suzanne McCarty and Valerie
Omerigic from the Los Lunas Public Schools.
"National Board certification is a demonstration of high accomplishment.
These teachers have been measured against high and rigorous standards
and have received due recognition for making sound professional
judgments about student learning and acting effectively with those
judgments," said State Superintendent of Public Instruction
Michael J. Davis.
The National Board is dedicated to identifying and recognizing
accomplished teaching in New Mexico and encourages and sustains
continued professional growth among teachers, contributes to the
support of a respected and responsible teaching profession and contributes
to the successful education of all students
