U.S. Education Secretary Rod Paige to Visit Monday, New Mexicans Invited to Education Rally

(Santa Fe, NM)- New Mexicans will celebrate U.S. Education Secretary Rod Paige's visit to New Mexico on Monday, April 8, with an education rally, to be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, located at 1701 4th Street, SW, in Albuquerque. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Michael J. Davis today invited all New Mexicans to attend the rally and hear Secretary Paige's address, slated for 10:00 a.m.

Joining Secretary Paige at the rally will be Master of Ceremonies Tristan Gale, 2002 Winter Olympic Gold Medallist in the Skeleton Event, Stefani Montiel, Tejano singer, former Miss Navajo Nation (1997-98) Radmilla Cody, state and federal elected officials, parents and school personnel. Secretary Paige will discuss the importance of the No Child Left Behind Act and ask parents and families for their help in improving our local schools.

"It is an honor to welcome Education Secretary Paige to New Mexico! His visit comes at a time when we are making major strides in improving outcomes for children. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase New Mexico's schools and students and hear how the No Child Left Behind Act will support our efforts," said State Superintendent Davis.

The education rally will feature performances by school students and groups from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Students will offer remarks at 9:30 a.m., followed by comments from Congresswoman Heather Wilson.

All media must show a valid photo press credential to enter the event. The press check-in area will be located near the main entrance.
