New Mexico - Public Education Department

Have a Say. Take the Lead.

Change isn't coming to our state's public schools. It's already here. The New Mexico Public Education Department is committed to dramatically improving outcomes for every one of our students. This is a crucial time in education and, as a respected and valued classroom teacher, your leadership and voice are needed!

How? Through the New Mexico Teacher Leader Network.

The New Mexico Teacher Leader Network will give a select group of educators opportunities to learn and improve, to collaborate with one another, and to develop leadership skills they can put into practice in their local schools.

We're Recruiting Now

The PED is seeking members for our Teacher Leader Network for the 2017 calendar year. Qualified teachers will come from all content areas and grade levels. Each will have a record of success in and out of the classroom and a desire to assume active leadership roles in their schools.

About the Network

The New Mexico Teacher Leader Network will meet four times in 2017. Through these all-day workshops, members will be among the first to learn about PED areas of focus and to access our latest resources and tools. In turn, the PED will incorporate your voice in our initiatives. You'll also be able to network with like-minded teachers and build a statewide community of support.

Members will serve a one-year term, with the option to reapply for a second year. The PED will provide travel and lodging for the four sessions, all of which will be held in Santa Fe or Albuquerque, as well as a $1,000 yearly stipend for each member.

Our Membership Criteria

The PED's standards for membership in the New Mexico Teacher Leader Network are rigorous. Successful applicants must have standout records, showing evidence of student growth in their classrooms.

Specifically, there are five criteria by which we will evaluate applicants:

  • Your belief in each of your students' potential to learn
  • Your effectiveness as a written and oral communicator
  • Your efforts to foster a collaborative culture at your school
  • Your commitment to personal growth and professional improvement
  • Your proven teaching and motivational abilities

After completing the initial application and responding to a set of questions, we will notify you about whether you advance to the second phase of the selection process.
