New Mexico - Public Education Department

Training

The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) and UNM-CDD are pleased to share enhanced efforts to increase collaboration between preschool and kindergarten teachers. The PED is currently re-designing the KOT Application (KOTA) as the Early Childhood Observation Tool (ECOT). The ECOT will include both the KOT and Preschool Observational Assessment Tools. All PED preschool programs (PreK, Title I, and Special Education) will now have access to the same online tool that the kindergarten teachers have had to record, track, and submit their observations. Training on the new system will also offer the opportunity for preschool and kindergarten teachers to be trained in a collaborative setting. Preschool teachers will be trained with new kindergarten teachers, enhancing collaboration. This will also give preschool teachers a platform to share their expertise and experience in observational assessments with kindergarten teachers.

Please note that kindergarten teachers who have already administered the KOT in previous years should not attend this training. Information and resources will be placed on the KOT site for these teachers.

Due to capacity limitations, participants are encouraged to attend a session closest to their location.
