Congratulations on making the decision to achieve your High School Equivalency (HSE) Credential! New Mexico has approved two options to obtain your HSE Credential. Either assessment will lead to the same New Mexico High School Equivalency Credential:

General Education Development Test

High School Equivalency Test

Four Tests
Subject Areas:
  • Language Arts—Reading and Writing
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Mathematics
Five Tests
Subject Areas:
  • Language Arts—Reading
  • Language Arts—Writing
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Mathematics
Cost: $20 per module
  • $80 for full exam battery
  • Pay as you test each module
  • Receive two free retakes
**Test Center fees may apply—check with your test site.
Cost--Two ways to pay:
  1. $50 paid up front for full exam battery
    • This includes two free retakes
  2. If you don't pay $50 upfront, each test is $15 for a total of $75 for the entire battery
    • Every retake with this option is $15
**Test Center fees may apply—check with your test site.
$20 first test > second test (free) > third test (free) > 60-day wait
**Repeat the process
**There is no limit
You may only test three times in each subject within a calendar year. After you've tested three times, then you will have to wait to retest the next year.
