Memorandum of Agreements with New Mexico Tribes/Pueblos

Creates a process for NM tribes/Pueblos to establish criteria and standards to determine native language competency for tribal members to obtain a Native American language and culture Prek-12 teacher certificate from the Professional Licensure Bureau. Holders of this certificate may not use this certificate to provide instruction in any other subject matter or discipline, unless they hold a valid PED license authorizing them to provide such instructional services.

Support Services to Tribes and Pueblos

Through a Request for Application process, provides funding to New Mexico tribes and Pueblos for supplemental support services to their native language programs and tribal departments of education. This initiative supports the maintenance and revitalization of Native languages in the State and ensures that the department of education partners with Tribes/Pueblos to increase tribal involvement in schools and the education of tribal students located in tribal communities.

Rural Literacy

Save the Children Literacy Block (LB) consists of core activities that are carefully selected to increase the reading achievement of struggling readers. Literacy Block Core Activities:
  • Guided Independent Reading Practice
  • Fluency Building Support
  • Read-Alouds
  • One-on-one and small group instruction is provided during the school day through tutorials identified by need and level.
