Outside of federally-funded technical assistance centers, the NMPED does not endorse any particular document or website, but offers the following ones that schools may investigate further:

  • National Center on Response to Intervention, a federally-funded technical assistance center. This Center's mission is to provide technical assistance and dissemination about proven and promising models for RtI and coordinated early intervening services to state and local educators, families, and other stakeholders. www.rti4success.org.
  • RtI Action Network is dedicated to the effective implementation of the Response to Intervention (RtI) framework in school districts nationwide. Its goal is to guide educators and families in the large-scale implementation of the RtI framework so that each child has access to quality instruction and that struggling students—including those with learning disabilities—are identified early and receive the necessary supports to be successful. The RtI Action Network is a program of the National Center for Learning Disabilities, funded by the Cisco Foundation and in partnership with the nation's leading education associations and top RtI experts. www.rtinetwork.org.
  • What Works Clearinghouse — A central, independent source of scientific evidence of what works in education funded by the U.S. Department of Education. ies.ed.gov/ncee/wwc. A top pick for resources.
    Their Institute for Education Science (IES) Practice Guides offer practical recommendations for educators to help them address the everyday challenges they face in their classrooms and schools. Developed by a panel of nationally recognized experts, practice guides consist of actionable recommendations, strategies for overcoming potential roadblocks, and an indication of the strength of evidence (i.e., strong, moderate, low but considered important) supporting each recommendation. ies.ed.gov/ncee/wwc/publications/practiceguides.   • The Center on Instruction in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education offers an array of resources related to scientifically-based research and information for reading, math, ELLs, behavior, and more. Check out their RtI link under "Hot Topics" on the home page. A top pick for resources. www.centeroninstruction.org.
  • Intervention Central offers free tools and resources to help school staff and parents to promote positive classroom behaviors and foster effective learning for all children and youth. The site was created by Jim Wright, a school psychologist and school administrator from Central New York. www.interventioncentral.org.
  • Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) is the federally-funded National Technical Assistance Center on Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports. It was established to address the behavioral and discipline systems needed for successful learning and social development of students. The Center provides capacity-building information and technical support about behavioral systems to assist states and districts in the design of effective schools. www.pbis.org.
  • The National Research Center on Learning Disabilities (NRCLD) The NRCLD Learning Disabilities Resource Kit: Specific Learning Disabilities Determination Procedures and Responsiveness to Intervention is a kit to help you navigate changes related to specific learning disability determination and responsiveness to intervention. All materials in this kit are in the public domain. Authorization to reproduce it in whole or in part is granted. www.nrcld.org/resource_kit.

  • Hawthorne Publications, who publish the various intervention manuals, have developed a paper which outlines research support for the interventions in those manuals. Find the paper at the following link:

  • Best Evidence Encyclopedia — a free web site created by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Data-Driven Reform in Education (CDDRE) under funding from the Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education. It is intended to give educators and researchers fair and useful information about the strength of the evidence supporting a variety of programs available for students in grades K–12. www.bestevidence.org.
  • The Promising Practices Network (PPN) — operated by the Rand Corp. is dedicated to providing quality evidence-based information about what works to improve the lives of children, youth, and families. The PPN site features summaries of programs and practices that are proven to improve outcomes for children. All of the information on the site has been screened for scientific rigor, relevance, and clarity. ies.ed.gov/ncee/wwc.
  • Alternative Strategies Manual for the Problem Learner published by the Georgia Learning Resources System contains a comprehensive collection of classroom management and instructional strategies that are helpful in developing informal interventions or to pair with more intense ones.
  • In conjunction with the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE), the Council of Administers in Special Education (CASE) has published two new documents in their joint Response to Intervention (RtI) Blueprint series. The two blueprints, Response to Intervention Blueprints for Implementation: District Level and Response to Intervention Blueprints for Implementation: School Building Level, provide step-by-step implementation guidelines, resources, and tips from RtI framework implementers with many years of experience. The blueprints are intentionally designed to provide a process around which RtI framework implementation can be built — keeping in mind New Mexico's framework and adapting this information accordingly. www.nasdse.org.

  • The Florida Center for Reading Research: Interventions for Struggling Readers — a website with information and ideas for implementing research-based reading strategies. www.fcrr.org/Interventions/index.htm.
  • Strategic Instruction Model (SIM®). The Center for Research and Learning at Kansas University has conducted research designed to develop ways to help students meet the demands of life, not just in school, but after they leave school as well. The overriding goal has been to develop an integrated model to address many of the needs of diverse learners. Out of this effort, the Strategic Instruction Model®, or SIM®, has evolved. In essence, SIM is about promoting effective teaching and learning of critical content in schools. SIM strives to help teachers make decisions about what is of greatest importance, what we can teach students to help them to learn, and how to teach them well.
