The New Mexico Teacher Assessments (NMTA)

The NMTA are required of all new applicants for teaching and administrative licensure.

The NMTA is comprised of:

New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Basic Skills and
New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Competency (Elementary, Secondary or Early Childhood).

Content Knowledge Tests

Individuals applying for initial teacher licensure and administrative licensure or adding certain endorsements must also take the Content Knowledge Assessment(s) in the following areas:

Elementary Education
Special Education
Educational Administration
Reading
Language Arts
History
Geography
Economics
Civics and Government
Math
Science
Modern & Classical Languages (Spanish, German, French)
Visual Arts
Music
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
Library Media, Family & Consumer Science
Physical Education
Health Education

Individuals applying for initial school counselor licensure must take the Content Knowledge Assessment in School Counselor.

Individuals applying for initial educational diagnostician licensure must take the Content Knowledge Assessment in Educational Diagnosis.

The passing score for each section of the NMTA and the Content Knowledge Assessments is 240.

Two sections may be taken in one day; the remaining section must be taken on a subsequent testing date.

 

National Teachers Exam Specialty Area Exam in School Psychology
School Psychologists only

If you have been issued a one-year school psychologist license, you will be required to achieve a passing score on the NTE Specialty Area Exam in School Psychology before the expiration date of the license.

The passing score is 156.
