Continuing Licensure Renewal

Native American Language & Culture

A person holding a valid level 1 license and seeking a level 2 shall submit:

  • Completed application for continuing licensure (Click here to download application)
  • $95 fee, cashier’s check or money order
  • Superintendent’s Recommendation Form for Level 2 Certification- signed by an Administrator at school/district where most recently employed. (Click here to download form)
  • Verification from a New Mexico Native American tribe or pueblo authority that the candidate has met the standards and criteria for competence and language proficiency to teach the language and culture. Such verification shall be provided on a form acceptable to the public education department ("PED").

Persons seeking to remain at level 2 shall submit:

  • Completed application for continuing licensure (Click here to download application)
  • $95 fee, cashier’s check or money order
  • Superintendents Recommendation Form for Level 2 certification - signed by an Administrator at school/district where most recently employed. (Click here to download form)
  • Verification from a New Mexico Native American tribe or pueblo authority that the candidate has met the standards and criteria for competence and language proficiency to teach the language and culture. Such verification shall be provided on a form acceptable to the public education department ("PED").

Exception to the Rule:             

Either non-availability of the superintendent or the licensed individual has not been employed in K-12 education during the term of the license(s) must submit the application for continuing licensure with a sworn, notarized statement asserting that he or she has not worked in a K-12 setting during the effective period of the license, and may renew the license at the current level of license held.
